Baffle Curtain Specification

Permathene baffle curtains are fabricated in standard 30m long interlocking units depending upon the total curtain length required. Permaliner FPP 1.0mm or Permaflex FPE 1.0mm is used for both the floatation tube and the curtain skirt. The skirt length is usually the distance between the high water level and the base of the pond. Where the curtain comes into contact with the shore that edge of the unit is cut to the same batter ratio as the slope. Lighter grades of Permaliner FPP membrane are available should the customers specification require this.

Floatation is achieved by the use of 200mm x 200mm PE logs sealed inside a low-density polyethylene tube which is then weld-sealed inside the Permaliner floatation tube. The PE logs are separated within the floatation sleeve. The double-wall floatation compartment ensures the baffle's stability on the water's surface.

The curtain's tension cable is fabricated from either 8mm or 10mm 316 SS 7/19 flexible wire rope and is located just below the floatation tube. The 30m baffle curtain unit lengths are linked together by 10mm SS316 D-shackles. A cross pond cable is supplied to complete the tension cables anchor point to anchor point transition. Tightening this cable in order to reduce lateral movement of the complete curtain will cause no stress to the curtains components. Tension adjustments are achieved by shortening or lengthening a section of SS316 13mm regular link chain at the shore anchor points. In order to eliminate any short circuiting between units the floatation tube profile is maintained at the connection points by the use of interlocking plates conforming to ASTM F 962-04 Z. The skirts are bolted together at 250mm vertical intervals.

The ballast chain is enclosed in a welded hem at the base of the skirt. The welded hem containing the chain continues up any slope units in order to create a complete seal. 13mm heavy galvanized regular link chain is standard. 13mm SS 316 chain is available upon request. All cables, shackles and thimbles supplied are made from Stainless Steel-Grade (UNS S31600). All ferrules (cable crimps) are made from copper.
